Fridays Special at the Coffee Shop!

I started making Doi Chaang Signature Blend Coffee in the new thermal coffee maker :) and selling it by the cup!

2008 Jack of Hearts Bistro Festival Recipe Competition & Cook-Off!

2008 Jack of Hearts Bistro Recipe Competition & Photo  & Cook-Off Rules

1. Recipe submissions for the 2008 Jack of Hearts Bistro Recipe Competition and Cook-Off must the best Bistro or Café food you have ever eaten with your small twist added. Recipes must be provided “named” with as much detail on the original serving style as possible. Bonus for the cook off photo supplied. The recipe competition encourages the use of coffee as a key ingredient and fresh ingredients where appropriate. No deep fryers or BBQ allowed!

2. Contestants may enter as many recipes as they wish, one entry per submission. Each entry must be in recipe format. Recipe format lists ingredients in order of use with amount/quantity, followed by step-by-step method of preparation. The Place you found the recipe, contestant name, User ID must be included with each recipe submission.

3. Contest is open to all including food establishments. Void wherever prohibited, taxed or restricted by local law.

4. All recipes submitted as entries become the property of the Jack of Hearts Bistro Inc.. By entering the contest, all participants consent to the commercial use of their recipe for advertising and publicity purposes including the inclusion of your item in the permanent menu of Jack of Hearts Bistro without further compensation. By-line available to finalists!

5. A panel of food professionals will consider qualifying entries. This panel will select the three finalists. Originality and use of but not limited to coffee, and Bistro/Café cultured foods will be the major criteria. Notification and details will be made to the three finalists by August 21, 2008. A certification of recipe originality will be required from each finalist. Finalists must produce personally a photo or supply Cook-Off photos (If unable to attend) to be eligible for the cash prizes.

6. Finalists provide all the necessary input for their recipes as well as all required cooking tips to ensure the closest possible match to the original item which inspired you!

7. On September 22nd through 29th, 2008, finalist dishes to be prepared by Chef at the Jack-of hearts Bistro, and will be judged by guests at the open house and festival — food experts and celebrities. Selection of the judges is at the sole discretion of the Jack of Hearts Bistro Open House Festival Committee. The basis for judging will be ease of preparation, flavor, creativity, appearance and use of coffee and Bistro/Café foods. The decision of the judging panel is final and binding.

8. Prizes for the Jack of Hearts Bistro Festival Recipe Contest are offered to those finalists who participate, with the Cook-Off or Photo-Cook-Off by/on Sept 27th, 2008. The prizes are: $500 for first place; $250 for second place; $150 for third place, all in Canadian dollars. Those qualifying finalist recipes are awarded an additional prize of “Your name” and “named item” listed in our  menu for first place; for second place; and for third place!

9. Hotel accommodations (double occupancy), if required by any of the three finalists, for the three participating finalists for the nights of September 30  through October 2, 2008 are provided by the Festival. Finalist may help prepare their own dishes at the open house! Finalists are expected to make their own travel arrangements to Calgary.
